This October 2016 SAMHSA analysis provides the first set of findings from NSDUH on substance use and mental health issues for adults by sexual identity. The analysis found that LGB adults were more likely to have substance use and mental health issues, more likely to need substance use treatment, and more likely to have any mental illness and serious mental illness, among other findings.
