This resource showcases African-American LGBTQ activists and provides resources on coming out across environments, systems, and individuals. For many African Americans, coming out involves additional cultural factors that make the process more challenging but no less rewarding. It includes having to deal with homophobic churches, strong family foundations that emphasize heterosexuality, homophobia in the black community, and racism in the broader LGBTQ community.

The resources, news, and content expressed on this website do not necessarily reflect the views, opinions, or policies of the Center for Applied Research Solutions (CARS), the CRDP LGBTQ TA Center, or the California Department of Public Health’s Office of Health Equity.
