The authors present a conceptual framework describing the psychological and structural pathways through which stigma influences health. They argue that the pervasive nature of stigma, its disruption of multiple life domains, and its corrosive impact on population health mean that stigma should be considered alongside the other major organizing concepts for research on social determinants of health.
