This document provides an overview of current research about transgender and gender-expansive youth in California. While more population-based data is needed, the data that follow illustrate critical aspects related to health disparities among this group of young people, including: School-based bullying and exclusion, drug and alcohol use, hostile climates in schools and communities, and suicidal ideation.
